| Shrubs Shrubs will cover the ground, fill a bed or border, grow as attractive specimen plants or adorn the wall of a house. The most popular varieties have green leaves and bear attractive flowers for a few weeks or even months, usually in spring but sometimes in summer or autumn. Golden, purple, silver, coppery or variegated foliage on an evergreen shrub provides colour all year round. Then there are shrubs with autumn foliage which can outshine almost any floral display and there others that produce their showiest foliage in spring. Abelia (caprifoliaceae) Small trumpet like fragrant pink flowers. Flowering July-Sept. Plant in full sun on well drained soil.
