Your Garden - December
If you are not sure what jobs you could be doing in your garden in December, here are a few suggestions:

Kitchen Garden
  • Prune apple and pear trees, removing any crossing branches
  • Winter wash your fruit trees with Growing Sucess Winter Wash
  • Put greese bands in place to stop moths laying eggs on apple and pear trees.
  • Shelter pot grown strawberries from winter wet
  • Prepare vegetable seed orders
  • Prune newly planted raspberries, gooseberries and currants
  • Start planning next year making a list of what worked well and what didn't

Flower Garden
  • Plant new roses cutting back hard after planting
  • Prune hybrid tea and floribunda roses
  • Check dahlias and gladiolus in storage
  • Prepare seed order for next year
  • Plant hedges
  • Purchase your Christmas Tree from Burstow Nurseries
  • Purchase Poinsettias for christmas colour indoors

Lawns

  • Keep off lawns in frosty weather
  • Prepare ground for sowing grass seed in the spring

Gardening will be very much dependent on the weather in your area with the timings given as a guide only.
