| Climbers and Clematis A climber is a plant which has a special mechanism for attaching itself to a support such as a wall, pole or wire. There are self-clinging climbers, such as Ivy and Campsis which produce aerial roots and Virginia Creeper which bears adhesive pads along the stems. These will cling to walls and woodwork without the need for wires and other forms of support. The other climbers are not so adaptable and they do need something to which they can cling. Some such as Jasmine and Wisteria are twiners, their stems winding round wires, poles or the wooden strips of trellis-work. Others, such as Passion Flower and Vines, produce tendrils or, like Clematis, bear twining leaf stalks. Please refer to seasonal products for new arrivals in the climbers range. We have compiled a list of the climbers and clematis currently available but as the range is frequently revised, please let us know if we can help you in your search for a specific plant either by visiting the Nursery or by contacting us.
