If you are not sure what jobs you could be doing in your garden in May, here are a few suggestions:
 
Kitchen Garden
  • Plant up herb pots
  • Plant Greenhouse tomatoes and cucumbers
  • Sow sweet corn outdoors in mild areas 
  • Sow vegetables without protection, ie cabbages, cauliflowers and brussel sprouts - seeds
  • Sow and plant runner beans and french beans
  • Protect freshly planted crops from birds using crop protection netting.
  • Start to feed tomatoes as soon as they have their first truss of tomatoes.

 

Flower Garden
  • Stake herbaceous plants as they grow
  • Plant Dahlias and gladioli
  • Prune Lilac,after flowering.
  • Plant up new pots and hanging baskets
  • Continue pricking out seedlings and pot up.
  • Order your bespoke hanging baskets from burstow nurseries
Lawns
  • Apply mosskiller and 'lawn feed and weed'
  • Dig out patches of coarse or resistant weeds
  • Renovate bare patches by over-seeding with lawn seed mixture (Patch Magic)
  • Sow a new lawn.(Remember we sell grass seed loose)
  • Trim lawn edges with edging iron
  • Mow the lawn, regularly in dry weather
  • Lay turf in mild areas providing the ground is not frozen or waterlogged ( our turf is locally grown and can be ordered ready for collection or delivery)
